Our Process
Step 1: Schedule a Zoom Consultation & Explore Your Options
Every ADU project starts with a conversation. During our Zoom consultation, we take time to understand why you're considering building an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) and what goals you have for your property.
Whether you're planning an in-law suite for family, a detached backyard cottage, a garage conversion, multigenerational living space, or a rental income opportunity, we'll walk through your ideas and help you understand what may be possible on your Massachusetts property.
We answer questions, explain the process, and help homeowners understand their options before making major decisions.
Step 2: Property Review, Site Visit & Planning Team
When you're ready to move forward, we schedule an on-site property visit. We evaluate your lot, discuss the best ADU layout options, and review factors that can affect your project, including site access, property conditions, space planning, and overall feasibility.
Before the site visit, we complete preliminary research on your property to better understand its potential and identify early considerations. We explore possibilities such as whether a factory-built ADU (prefab or modular ADU) or a traditional stick-built ADU may be the best fit for your goals, budget, timeline, and property layout.
We then connect you with trusted professionals, including a surveyor and architect, to begin transforming ideas into a real plan and preparing the information needed for design and permitting.
Our goal is to simplify what can often feel like a complicated process and help homeowners clearly understand what their property can become.
Step 3: Design, Permitting & Construction
Once your plans are finalized, Mass ADU manages the process from there. We handle Massachusetts ADU permitting, coordinate construction, and oversee your project from start to finish.
From submitting permit applications and navigating local requirements to managing construction and completing your new Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU), we stay involved every step of the way. Our team keeps communication clear so you always know what comes next.
